Treatment for Headaches: Natural Methods

treatment for headaches

Headache is a common problem that can interfere with daily behavior.
In this article, we’ll learn about the different types of headaches and the natural methods we can use for their treatment.

Find the Source for the Headache

Although symptoms can be resolved with conventional medicine,
There are many natural solutions that not only relieve the symptoms but also treat the root of the problem.

I recommend maintaining a diary,
a method that is used quite a bit in natural medicine, detailing:

  • The foods we eat
  • The medicines we take (especially the body’s response)
  • And our goals

The documentation will give us an understanding of what is causing the pain:

  • Is it from certain food we are sensitive to?
  • Is it lack of exercise?
  • Stress or lack of sleep?

Understanding the root of the problem will eventually help us eliminate it.

Also, natural medicine has quite a few solutions for the treatment of headaches,
depending on the type of the headache.

Tension-Type Headache

This type of headache is very common, usually due to muscle contraction,
It is characterized by a steady and persistent pressure that lasts for many hours and sometimes throughout the day.
The pain can appear in any part of the head, in the forehead, temples, or the back of the head.
This headache is usually not characterized by nausea and vomiting.

Natural Solutions:

go to a quiet place, close your eyes, and just breathe…
Breathing will help reduce the stress and tension that causes headaches.

from each side of the spine to the base of the skull.

wait for it to cool a bit, and drink it.

Migraine

headaches

A headache characterized by a feeling of vibrating pain,
which comes in seizures, a feeling of “pulses”.
It lasts from 4 to 72 hours.
The origin of the word from Greek is HEMICRANIA which means half head.
Which also describes the problem.
It is often accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and dizziness –
the sensation usually results from blood vessel contraction.
Women usually suffer from migraines more than men.

Natural Solutions:

  • Tissue massage with Lavender oil or ointment –
Lavender is known to soothe, and cool.
  • Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and dairy products.
  • Avoid salty foods –
Sodium is known for drying and for narrowing the blood vessels, which can cause headaches.
  • Scalp massage – will improve the blood flow and as a result, will relieve the headache.
  • After a herbalist diagnosis, one can use medicinal plants to treat the migraine.
Chrysanthemum, Lavender, Mint, and Rosemary In the form of infusion, tincture or capsules can be used as painkillers
  • Cold shower – the cool water will expand the blood vessels,
as a result, it will reduce the pain.
  • Press a slice of cucumber or potato to the sore spot.

Cluster Headache

One-tenth of the population suffers from headaches, with high incidence in men (compared to migraine).
The pain is felt on one side of the head.
Also, the pain is aggressive and lasts between 15 to 45 minutes.
It concentrates on the eye area, around it, behind it, or the temples area with projection to the jaw area.
The pain will cause eye redness, eyelid cramping, tears, restlessness,
as well as nasal or blockage of the nostril on the same side as where the pain is.
